Sport Psychology for parents

WHY IS TRAINING MENTAL SKILLS IMPORTANT?

Mental skills training uses the principles of sport psychology to help athletes perform consistently at the top of their ability. Your athlete will build a strong mental game that gives them an edge in the competition for a roster spot, a starting position, or the top of the podium.

Parenting an athlete comes with its own challenges. Understanding what your child experiences mentally in competition helps you support them better and strengthens your connection.

That's why I work with parents too. Whether alongside your athlete or on your own, you'll learn the same skills that build and maintain a strong mental game, so you can support your athlete with confidence.

WHAT WILL YOUR ATHLETE LEARN?

The benefits of mental game training reach far beyond the field. The mental toughness, confidence, and resilience your athlete builds in sport carry over into everyday life.

  • Autonomy: They learn that their choices and actions shape their future, in sports and in life.
  • Competence: They build confidence and work toward mastering their skills, a mindset that strengthens every area of life.
  • Connection: They learn to build and thrive in healthy relationships with friends, family, and teammates, and to perform at their best even in difficult environments.

CORE COMPETENCIES DEVELOPED

Sport psychology training makes sports more fun for athletes and parents alike. When performance is more consistent and closer to the top of an athlete's ability, competition becomes something to look forward to instead of something to stress about.

Skills your athlete will learn:

  • Goal setting
  • Focus
  • Managing physical and mental energy levels
  • Handling anxiety and emotions
  • Positive, productive self-talk
  • Imagery and visualization
  • Mental toughness
  • Assertiveness
  • Confidence

These skills don't just help in sports. They also support your athlete's well-being and everyday life away from competition.

WHAT DO PARENTS LEARN?

You'll learn the art and science behind the mental side of high performance. Understanding what makes a strong mental game helps you support your athlete as they grow. And when you and your athlete share a common language, conversations about sports become easier, with less pushback and more real communication. That stronger connection carries over into everyday life, too.

Sport psychology also brings the science of motivation, performance, and self-regulation into your parenting. You'll be better prepared to support your child's growth as an athlete and as a person, and to handle the unique challenges of parenting an athlete with confidence.
