This sport psychology training session teaches athletes to stay in control of the mental processes that drive high performance when things become difficult. Regardless of age, sport, and level of competition, things will become difficult.
Techniques for managing anxiety and emotion, minimizing distractions, and staying focused on the task at hand will be covered. Being mentally tough is about taking the next step, the next rep, and quieting the self-talk, which is trying to convince the athlete it’s okay to quit.
Under pressure, an athlete falls to the level of their training. The right system must be in place. Our mental toughness training provides a systematic approach to training and performance. Athletes move through specific and individualized steps, helping them get their mind right for practice and competition.
Through sport psychology training, an athlete learns to perform consistently, no matter the circumstances.
Lack of mental toughness is a catchall excuse for losses, failures, and old-fashioned butt whoopings. There is an idea that failure is the wall where an athlete’s or team’s mental toughness ends. That’s wrong.
Mental toughness isn’t the ability to white knuckle through adversity until the athlete hits a wall where they fail. And mental skills training isn’t about fortifying that wall. It is about moving it past the horizon, so the athlete doesn’t reach it.
